Many people are dead during lockdownWhen Omicron hit Shanghai in 2022, the city was put into a full lockdown. Since medical resources are assigned mainly for COVID-19, and the information of hospitals dose not update in time and inaccurate. Research
Why is it so hard to get immediate medical care during covid lock down?
To conduct a more comprehensive analysis of the challenges in accessing immediate medical care during the COVID-19 lockdown, we carried out qualitative research, including in-depth interviews with five potential users to gain diverse perspectives. Based on these insights, we synthesized the findings into six key categories: commuting challenges, methods of seeking assistance, cross-district travel restrictions, community permission processes, access to specific treatments, and factors causing delays in receiving care. These categories provided a well-rounded understanding of the obstacles patients faced during the lockdown.

Research
Why is it so hard to get immediate medical care during covid lock down?
To better understand the challenges patients faced in obtaining immediate medical care during the COVID-19 lockdown, we utilized a user journey map to analyze the entire process—from the moment a patient begins feeling unwell to their eventual arrival at the hospital. Through this analysis, we identified several key obstacles, such as constantly busy community hotline lines, which hindered access to timely care.
However, we quickly realized that many of these barriers were rooted in governmental policies beyond the scope of design intervention. With this understanding, we refocused our efforts on areas where design could have a meaningful impact, specifically by addressing three critical pain points:
1. helping patients find available hospitals,
2. establish contact with hospitals, and
3. navigate the best routes to access care efficiently.
